🗜️ Image Compressor
Client-Side OnlyWhat Is Image Compression?
Image compression is the process of reducing a photo or graphic's file size while keeping it visually usable. A high-resolution JPG or PNG straight off a phone or camera can easily be several megabytes, which is overkill for a website thumbnail, an email attachment, or a product listing photo. Compression removes redundant data and fine detail that the human eye barely notices, resulting in a file that looks nearly identical but downloads and loads far faster.
There are two broad approaches: lossless compression, which shrinks the file without discarding any image data, and lossy compression, which trades a small, often invisible amount of quality for a much bigger size reduction. NexaTools Image Compressor uses lossy JPG re-encoding through your browser's built-in Canvas API, giving you a slider to decide exactly how much quality to trade for file size.

Common Use Cases
People compress images for many different reasons. Some of the most common include:
Faster websites
Replace large photos with smaller, compressed versions to speed up page load times.
Email attachments
Reduce file size so photos fit within email attachment size limits.
Marketplace listings
Meet file size requirements for platforms like eBay, Etsy, or Amazon.
Storage savings
Save disk space by compressing large batches of photos or screenshots.
Privacy: Why Browser-Based Compression Matters
Many online image compressors require you to upload your photos to a remote server, where they're processed and, in some cases, temporarily stored. That's an unnecessary privacy risk for personal photos, client work, or anything under an NDA. NexaTools Image Compressor avoids this entirely by using your browser's own Canvas API to decode, redraw, and re-export each image locally. The file never leaves your device, there's no server round-trip, and nothing is logged or retained. When you close the tab, the compressed data is gone unless you've downloaded it.
Tips for Getting the Best Results
1. Start around 70% quality
Most photos look nearly identical at 70% quality while shrinking noticeably in file size. Drop lower only if size matters more than crispness.
2. PNGs with transparency
Compression here re-encodes images as JPG for maximum size savings, which flattens transparency to white. If you need transparency kept, don't compress that particular image.
3. Compress before uploading to the web
Smaller images load faster on websites and use less bandwidth for your visitors compress product photos and blog images before publishing.
4. Use batch mode for large sets
Uploading multiple images at once and using "Download All as ZIP" saves time when compressing a whole folder of photos.
5. Compare before and after
Use the before/after preview on each image card to make sure the quality setting you chose still looks good before downloading.
Common Problems & Troubleshooting
"Compress All Images" stays disabled. This button activates only after you've uploaded at least one JPG or PNG image. If it stays greyed out, make sure your file uploaded successfully in the image grid above.
Some images show "Compression failed." This usually happens with corrupted files or files that aren't valid images despite the file extension. Try re-saving the image from its original source and uploading it again.
A file was skipped on upload. Files larger than 20 MB or files that aren't JPG/PNG format are skipped automatically, and a warning message explains why.
Transparency disappeared after compressing. Compression re-encodes images as JPG for maximum size savings, which flattens transparent areas to white. If you need to keep transparency, don't compress that particular PNG.
ZIP download doesn't start. Make sure at least one image has finished compressing (status shows "Compressed") before clicking "Download All as ZIP." The button only appears once a compressed image is available.
